Tragic Shooting of 'American Idol' Music Supervisor and Husband

A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Robin Kaye, a veteran music supervisor for American Idol, and her husband, Thomas DeLuca, a respected singer-songwriter. The couple was found dead in their San Fernando Valley home on Monday, July 15, 2025, after a week-long delay in discovering the bodies.
The suspect, Raymond Boodarian, 22, of Encino, is believed to have entered the residence through an unlocked door during a suspected burglary. Police report that the shooting occurred on Thursday, July 10, when the couple returned home and confronted the intruder. Authorities described the incident as a random act of violence, though the exact motive remains under investigation.
DeLuca, 70, was a seasoned musician with a career spanning decades. He released his debut album, Down to the Wire, in 1986 and his most recent work, Street Rock, in 2022. His songwriting credits include collaborations with artists like Meredith Brooks, Diesel, and Kid Rock. Kaye, also 70, had served as a key figure on American Idol since 2009, earning widespread respect and admiration from colleagues.
The LAPD responded to a welfare check at the couple’s home on Monday, discovering the bodies in separate rooms—one in the bathroom and the other stuffed in the pantry. A blood trail led officers to the scene. It remains unclear why the remains were not discovered earlier.
An American Idol spokesperson expressed deep sorrow, calling Kaye a cornerstone of the show and extending condolences to her family and friends. The tragic loss has left the entertainment community in mourning, with many paying tribute to the couple’s contributions to the industry.
