Key Sections of U.S. Constitution Removed from Government Website

Several key sections of Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution have been removed from the official U.S. government website, as reported by TechCrunch. The changes were first noticed by internet sleuths and confirmed by comparing the current website to an archived version from July 17 via the Wayback Machine.
The removed sections include large portions of Section 8, as well as entire Sections 9 and 10. These sections outline the powers and limitations of Congress and individual states, including protections related to habeas corpus, which safeguard citizens from unlawful detention. The absence of these provisions is notable, as some text appears to have been abruptly truncated, leaving a trailing semicolon.
The reason for the removal remains unclear. While altering the Constitution’s text on the website does not affect U.S. law, the timing follows threats earlier this year by senior Trump administration official Stephen Miller to suspend habeas corpus. A White House spokesperson has yet to respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment.
The deletion raises concerns about transparency and the integrity of official government information. As the government’s website is a primary source for constitutional text, the removal of these sections could create confusion and undermine public trust in the democratic process.
