Severe COVID-19 Wave Grips China Amid Rising Infections and Deaths

China is facing a severe resurgence of COVID-19, with doctors and health professionals reporting alarming increases in infections, white lung symptoms, and deaths. This latest wave is far more severe than what official authorities have acknowledged.
The dominant pathogens include SARS-CoV-2, rhinoviruses, and enteroviruses, with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) also detected in hospitalized cases. Symptoms reported by patients include prolonged cough, sputum production, and in severe cases, white lung, a condition typically associated with severe COVID-19 infection.
Critically ill patients are predominantly elderly, but sudden deaths among younger individuals in their 30s to 50s are also on the rise. Health professionals warn that the outbreak could reach pandemic levels by July, with explosive growth possible.
Internal reports suggest that variants like NB.1.8.1 and XFG are spreading rapidly, with NB.1.8.1 potentially becoming the next global dominant strain. These variants cause symptoms such as sore throat, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea, and may have long-term effects on immune function.
Dr. Jonathan Liu, a Canadian professor and expert in traditional Chinese medicine, noted that infections often last for extended periods and interfere with immune function, leading to unusual symptoms.
The surge in cases, particularly among schoolchildren, has overwhelmed healthcare systems, with lung nodules and severe respiratory conditions being reported at unprecedented rates.
This alarming trend underscores the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness as China grapples with the severe consequences of the latest COVID-19 wave.
