FBI Arrests Suspected Shooter in ICE Ambush

FBI agents have arrested Benjamin Hanil Song, a former United States Marine Corps reservist, in connection with a premeditated ambush on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the Prairieland Detention Center in Texas on July 4. Song was apprehended in Dallas after a weeklong manhunt, and he faces charges of attempted murder of federal agents and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
The attack, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. on July 4, targeted ICE personnel at the detention center. Song and ten other suspects allegedly planned the assault, though Song fled the scene after the attack. Despite his initial escape, authorities were confident he would not evade capture for long. Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy E. Larson stated, βThe fourteen individuals who planned and participated in these heinous acts will be prosecuted, and we expect justice will be swift.β
This arrest marks the fourteenth overall in relation to the attack. Authorities continue to investigate the broader conspiracy and have emphasized their commitment to ensuring accountability for those involved in the violent incident. The case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by federal agencies in carrying out their duties while safeguarding personnel.
