New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that the gunman who killed four individuals at a Manhattan office building on Monday was attempting to target the NFL headquarters. The suspect, identified as Shane Tamura, shot several people in the building’s lobby before taking the wrong elevator, according to investigators. Tamura, a 27-year-old man, died of self-inflicted wounds at the scene.
A note found on Tamura’s body suggested he harbored grievances against the NFL and indicated he may have been suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a condition linked to repeated concussions in contact sports like football. However, authorities have not yet determined a motive for the attack.
The shooting occurred at a building housing NFL offices and other businesses. Among the victims was an off-duty police officer, Didarul Islam, who was working corporate security. Islam had served with the New York City Police Department for over three years.
The incident has raised questions about workplace security and the potential link between sports-related trauma and violent behavior. Investigations into Tamura’s background and mental health are ongoing.
