Israel and Iran Engage in Escalating Missile Exchange

On June 14 and into June 15, Israel and Iran exchanged missile strikes, escalating tensions in the region. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched extensive airstrikes targeting Tehran, focusing on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Among the targets were the Iranian Ministry of Defense headquarters and sites linked to the SPND nuclear project. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared, “Tehran is burning,” after Iran launched initial retaliatory attacks late on June 13.
The IDF reported striking over 400 missile-related targets in Iran, including 40 in Tehran, with fighter jets operating freely. Israel’s primary objective is to cripple Iran’s nuclear capabilities. The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed significant damage to Iran’s nuclear facility in Natanz, though no external radiological impact was detected.
Saturday night marked the second consecutive night of continuous sirens and shelter alerts in Israel, with at least three deaths and dozens injured. Despite Iran’s relentless attacks, Israel maintains a strategic advantage.
The missile strikes overshadowed planned talks between Iran and the U.S. in Oman regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson criticized the U.S. for supporting Israel’s attacks, declaring dialogue meaningless under such circumstances.
