Israel Approves Plan to Take Control of Gaza City Amid Conflict

The Israeli Security Cabinet has approved a plan to expand the country’s military operations in Gaza, with the goal of taking control of Gaza City despite domestic and international pressure to end the conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal, which was approved after hours of negotiations, outlines steps to prepare for the military takeover of the city.
Currently, Israel is believed to control about 75% of the Gaza Strip, but not the densely populated Gaza City, which has been under Hamas rule for nearly two decades. The plan includes five key principles: the disarmament of Hamas, the return of all Israeli hostages, the demilitarization of the enclave, Israeli control over Gaza, and the establishment of a local government in Gaza that excludes Hamas and the Palestinian Authority.
This decision comes amid ongoing tensions and international calls for a ceasefire. The move reflects Israel’s broader strategy to consolidate control over Gaza while addressing security concerns and seeking a long-term resolution to the conflict.
