Minnesota Lawmakers and Their Spouses Targeted in Home Shootings

Gov. Tim Walz announced that two Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party lawmakers and their spouses were victims of targeted shootings at their homes. Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were killed, while State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were seriously wounded. The shooters, dressed as police officers, carried out the attacks early Saturday. Walz activated the State Emergency Operations Center and urged residents in Champlin and Brooklyn Park to shelter in place. Authorities reported two suspects, with one in custody after an officer-involved shooting. The investigation is ongoing as the state provides full support to local law enforcement.
