John MacArthur, Pastor and Theologian, Dies at 86

John MacArthur, the founder of Grace to You and longtime pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, has died at the age of 86. MacArthur, who spent over 50 years in ministry, recently contracted pneumonia and passed away after a brief hospitalization.
Grace to You shared the news, calling him a faithful servant who had "endured until his race was run." Tom Patton, a staff minister at Grace Community Church, informed the congregation of MacArthur's condition earlier this week, expressing hope that he would soon enter the presence of the Lord.
MacArthur, who began his ministry in 1969, preached over 3,000 sermons and reached thousands through his radio broadcasts, digital media, and numerous theological works. His unwavering commitment to the Word of God earned him widespread respect and influence in the evangelical community.
In 2020, MacArthur gained attention for defying Governor Gavin Newsom's COVID-19 restrictions by continuing in-person church services. This year, he addressed his congregation, expressing gratitude for God's provision despite his declining health.
Greg Laurie, senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, praised MacArthur's legacy, calling him a man who "lived a life well-lived" and remained faithful to the end. Jack Graham, senior pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church, echoed this sentiment, describing MacArthur as a "good and faithful servant" whose clear proclamation of God's Word inspired millions.
MacArthur's impact will continue through his extensive body of work, which includes dozens of books, sermons, and biblical commentaries. His passing leaves behind a profound legacy of faith, integrity, and dedication to the Gospel.
