Schumer Criticizes Trump Administration Over Medicaid Cuts

In a heated exchange, Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s proposed Medicaid reforms, dubbing them the “We’re All Going to Die Act.” Schumer accused the administration of prioritizing tax breaks for the wealthy while slashing critical health care benefits for vulnerable Americans.
The legislation, according to the Trump administration, aims to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid by denying coverage to illegal immigrants and certain procedures for transgender individuals. However, Schumer argued that the cuts are too deep and would leave many without essential health care.
The controversy stemmed from a comment by Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), who remarked, “Well, we all are going to die,” in response to concerns about the bill’s impact. Ernst later apologized, clarifying her intent to emphasize that life’s certainties should not obscure the need for responsible policy.
Schumer, however, doubled down, warning that the bill would lead to higher premiums, hospital closures, and job losses. He accused Republicans of misleading the public, stating, “Anyone who thinks they’re voting for the nice words of Donald Trump will face a harsh reality when this is implemented.”
The debate highlights the ongoing political divide over health care reform, with Democrats accusing Republicans of cruelty and Republicans arguing for the need to strengthen Medicaid’s integrity.
