Israeli PM Confirms Hamas Leader Mohammed Sinwar's Death

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the death of Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar, the brother of October 7 attack mastermind Yahya Sinwar, on Wednesday. Netanyahu stated that Sinwar was killed in an Israeli airstrike but did not provide specific details about the location of the attack.
“This is a significant moment in our ongoing efforts to secure peace and stability in the region,” Netanyahu said, highlighting the impact of the 600-day “War of Revival.” He emphasized the elimination of key Hamas figures, including Mohammed Deif, Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and Mohammed Sinwar, as part of Israel’s efforts to counter terrorism.
The airstrike targeting Sinwar occurred on May 13 in southern Gaza, though the Israeli military has yet to confirm whether it directly resulted in his death. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz told parliament that “all indications” pointed to Sinwar’s death in the strike.
Netanyahu also reiterated his commitment to recovering all remaining hostages, stating that 20 are confirmed alive, with up to 38 others believed deceased. Meanwhile, a new ceasefire proposal drafted by President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is being finalized. An anonymous source suggested optimism about the possibility of a temporary ceasefire, though significant gaps remain.
The developments highlight ongoing tensions in Gaza as Israel continues its military operations against Hamas.
