Parents' Rights Group Seeks Federal Investigation of YMCA Policies

A parents' rights group has filed a formal complaint with the Trump administration, accusing the YMCA of violating federal law by allowing men who identify as women into women's locker rooms and exposing themselves to women and girls. The American Parents Coalition alleges that the YMCA's policies, which permit individuals to use facilities based on their gender identity, constitute unlawful gender-based discrimination under Title IX.
The complaint cites incidents where men entered women's locker rooms and exposed themselves, including a case in Kansas City, Missouri, where a mother and her daughter were exposed to a naked man. The YMCA of Greater Kansas City suspended the individual's membership and stated it was committed to ensuring safety. However, the coalition argues that such policies imperil young girls and violate federal civil rights law.
The YMCA, which receives over $600 million in government grants annually, is required to comply with Title IX, which prohibits sex discrimination in federally funded programs. The American Parents Coalition emphasized the YMCA's significant role in serving millions of children nationwide, including after-school programs and summer camps, and argued that its policies undermine safety and gender equality.
The YMCA has not responded to all allegations, but the coalition's complaint highlights concerns over the organization's handling of gender policies and its obligation to adhere to federal law.
