Doctor's License Under Fire After Abortion Survivor Left to Die

A pro-life legal group in Poland has called for the suspension of Dr. Gizela Jagielska's medical license following allegations that she failed to provide life-saving treatment to a baby born alive during a late-term abortion. According to a report filed by the pro-life think tank Ordo Iuris, the incident occurred in late July 2025 at the County Hospital Complex in Oleśnica.
Dr. Jagielska reportedly conducted a 26-week abortion, after which the baby was born alive but received only palliative care, ultimately dying as a result. In a media interview, Jagielska admitted to the circumstances, stating, "The child is born and we wait for it to die. Of course, we provide palliative care. But that situation only reinforced our conviction that we cannot do this."
Ordo Iuris argued that Jagielska's actions violated Polish law, constituting a crime under the Polish Penal Code for failing to provide assistance to a person in immediate danger of death. The group emphasized that any child born alive has human rights and should receive medical treatment.
This case is not the first time Jagielska has faced scrutiny. Earlier this year, she performed a 37-week abortion on a baby diagnosed with brittle bone disease. Ordo Iuris has demanded that Jagielska's license be suspended pending an investigation and has called for accountability for all involved in allowing the child to die.
The group's report highlights the ethical and legal implications of failing to provide medical intervention to viable infants born during abortions, calling for stricter enforcement of medical guidelines to protect the lives of newborns.
