Russia Launches Major Aerial Assault on Ukraine, Kyiv Sustains Damage

Russia carried out its largest aerial assault on Ukraine since the war began overnight, damaging multiple districts of Kyiv on Friday morning. Ukrainian forces reported neutralizing 478 weapons, with air defenses downing 270 targets, including two cruise missiles, and 208 additional targets lost due to radar interference or presumed jamming. Despite this, Russia successfully struck eight locations with nine missiles and 63 drones.
The attack damaged five ambulances, though no medical staff injuries were reported. Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko urged residents to close windows due to dangerous levels of combustion products in the air. He emphasized the critical role of air defenses in limiting damage and called for continued support from partners, particularly the United States, to defend against ballistic missiles.
Tkachenko also stressed the need for sanctions and countermeasures against Russia to deter further attacks. Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed disappointment after discussing Ukraine and Iran with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating he saw no progress in stopping the conflict. Trump is expected to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later Friday. Additionally, the conversation reportedly touched on exchanging films promoting traditional values shared by Russia and the Trump administration.
