Trump Administration Proposes Major Rollback of Greenhouse Gas Regulations

The Trump administration has announced plans to dismantle federal rules aimed at limiting greenhouse gas emissions, sparking outrage among environmental activists. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin revealed the proposal during a speech in Indiana, calling it the "largest deregulatory action in U.S. history." The move follows previous efforts by the administration to weaken or eliminate two of three programs regulating tailpipe emissions, with this proposal targeting the third.
Environmental groups expressed alarm, with the Environmental Defense Fund's Fred Krupp warning that the rollback would exacerbate climate change, leading to more severe weather events, rising costs, and threats to public health. "Americans are already suffering from stronger hurricanes, more severe heat waves and floods, and more frequent fires," Krupp stated. "The stakes could not be higher for Americans."
Moms Clean Air Force also condemned the decision, calling it "a shameful, reckless, and immoral move" that prioritizes corporate interests over public safety. Despite the backlash, the proposal is unlikely to take immediate effect, as it will undergo public comment and face potential legal challenges. Industry advocates, however, have praised the move as a victory for energy companies and economic growth.
