Attacks on Christian Churches Hit Record Highs, Federal Government Takes Notice

A recent report from the Family Research Council (FRC) reveals a alarming surge in acts of hostility against Christian churches in the United States. In 2023, the number of such incidents exceeded eight times the number recorded in 2018, with California, Pennsylvania, Florida, New York, Texas, and Ohio reporting the highest rates of vandalism, arson, and other aggressive acts.
The FRC's annual report identified 485 incidents in 2023, marking a record high and more than double the 198 incidents reported in 2022. While the number of incidents slightly declined to 415 in 2024, the total remains near historic levels. The report highlights 284 instances of vandalism, 55 cases of arson, 14 bomb threats, and numerous other acts of aggression.
The White House has taken notice, issuing an executive order titled "Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias" to address the growing trend. The FRC applauds these efforts but emphasizes the need for action at every level of government to protect religious freedom.
The report also notes a societal shift, with regular church attendance declining by 12% over the past two decades. This cultural shift may contribute to decreased stigma surrounding acts of violence against churches, fueling anti-Christian sentiment.
"The free exercise of religion is a fundamental human right enshrined in the U.S. Constitution," said FRC President Tony Perkins. "Efforts must be taken at every level of government to protect and promote this fundamental human right."
The FRC warns that the reported incidents likely represent only a fraction of the actual number, as many cases go unreported or unpublished.
