Interior Department Targets Wind Energy Projects

The U.S. Interior Department has taken significant steps to curb wind energy projects this summer, focusing on President Donald Trump’s opposition to wind power. In recent weeks, the department has issued orders restricting wind leasing, halting most renewable permitting spending, and requiring high-level approvals for any actions on renewable projects. Additionally, agencies have been instructed to eliminate preferences for wind and solar in federal rules.
A spokesperson for the Interior Department, Aubrie Spady, criticized wind energy in a recent statement, calling it unreliable and emphasizing the need to end its dominance on federal lands. “For too long, massive and unreliable wind energy projects have consumed our federal lands while offering intermittent power,” Spady said.
The Interior Department has not provided further details to media inquiries beyond its public statements. These actions reflect the Trump administration’s broader efforts to limit renewable energy initiatives, particularly wind, which has faced increasing scrutiny under the current administration.
The moves have drawn attention as part of a larger strategy to reshape the energy sector, with critics arguing that such actions hinder progress toward clean energy goals.
